Although the majority of breast augmentation patients are happy with their results, some women decide after their initial breast surgery that they would like to increase or decrease the size of their breast implants. Others choose to switch from one implant type to another. For women who wish to return to their original breast size, they may want to have the implants removed altogether. Breast revision surgery can give you a second chance to obtain the results you originally sought with breast augmentation.
If you are unsatisfied with the outcome of a previous breast augmentation or if you simply wish to upgrade your implants, the experienced plastic surgeons at New York Plastic Surgical Group can help you attain your original aesthetic goals with breast revision surgery. In addition to cosmetic reasons, breast revision patients also seek out this surgery to effectively resolve complications that may have occurred after breast augmentation, including rippling, implant shifts, rupture, capsular contracture, or infection.

Breast Revision Procedure
During your initial consultation with our plastic surgeon, you can discuss your individual concerns and surgical goals and have your questions answered. Our doctor can then design a customized treatment plan to meet your expectations. The technique used for breast revision surgery will vary depending on your needs and goals. Saline implants will typically be deflated before removal. Silicone implant removal may necessitate some of the surrounding tissues and muscle to also be removed. If you are having new implants placed, this part of the process is often performed immediately after the original implants are removed. Any existing scar tissue will also be addressed during the breast revision procedure.
Your plastic surgeon will review the details of your breast revision treatment plan during the consultation process. Breast revision surgery is typically completed on an outpatient basis and is usually performed under general anesthesia.
Breast Revision Recovery and Results
Breast revision patients should expect some swelling and bruising in the days following surgery, though any post-operative discomfort can be managed with medication. Our doctors employ tools and techniques during surgery that can reduce tissue trauma and minimize scarring. After surgery, most patients are fitted with a surgical bra to facilitate the healing process. Depending on the nature of the surgery, patients can often return to work and their normal daily activities as soon as a few days after the procedure. However, our surgeons recommend patients avoid any activities that would place strain on the breasts or chest for about six weeks.
With breast revision surgery, you can experience results that more closely match your original breast augmentation expectations and allow you to feel a renewed sense of confidence.
