What is a facelift?
A facelift is one of the most popular facial rejuvenation procedures at New York Plastic Surgical Group. Wrinkles, fine lines, and deep folds are common signs of the natural aging process that can make us appear older on the outside than we feel on the inside. Our plastic surgeons possess the skill and expertise to smooth loose skin and tighten facial muscles beneath the skin’s surface to give you a younger and more energized appearance. Using the latest techniques in the field of plastic surgery, our doctors can help you achieve long-lasting results that look natural and beautiful.
Who is a good candidate for a facelift?
The ideal facelift candidate will have some degree of skin elasticity and a strong bone structure. Many of our facelift patients are in their 50s to 70s, though patients both older and younger have also been deemed good candidates for the procedure. For some patients who have minimal signs of wrinkles, folds, and fine lines, non-surgical injectables can sometimes serve as an alternative to facelift surgery. Some of our patients also choose to combine a facelift with an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) or a neck lift for a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

How is facelift surgery performed?
The experienced plastic surgeons at New York Plastic Surgical Group offer a variety of facelift treatment options in addition to the full facelift procedure described below. For patients who may not need a full facelift, alternative procedures include:
MACS Lift (Short Scar Facelift)
Mid-Facelift (Mini Facelift)
Full Facelift Procedure
During the initial consultation process, you will discuss your personal aesthetic goals with one of our experienced plastic surgeons, who will then design a custom-tailored treatment plan that can achieve the results you desire. To remove excess skin, tighten the underlying facial muscles and smooth the remaining skin, our facelift surgeons typically make an incision above the hairline, leading to virtually unnoticeable residual scarring. Facelift surgery is generally performed as an outpatient procedure and takes about three to four hours to complete, depending on the needs of the individual patient. Facelifts can also be combined with fat grafting procedures.
Facelift Recovery and Results
Patients typically experience some swelling and bruising after facelift surgery, though any post-operative discomfort can be easily remedied with oral pain medication. Our surgeons recommend keeping your head elevated in the days immediately following the surgery to aid in the healing process. You should also avoid any strenuous exercise for two weeks. Facelift patients usually return to their normal daily activities within ten to fourteen days. Throughout the healing process, you should see the results from your facelift continue to improve. The final outcome of the procedure will likely be apparent within just a few weeks.

How much does a facelift cost?
We customize every treatment plan to optimize the patient’s results, and therefore the price of a facelift can vary from person to person. We take into consideration your individual anatomic needs, your desired outcome, the complexity of your treatment, the technique used, and other factors to arrive at our estimate. During your initial consultation, we will provide an overview of the full anticipated cost of your operation, including the hospital facility fee and anesthesiology fee. Facelifts range in total cost from $11,625 – $11,800. These numbers are combined with our surgeon’s fee to arrive at the approximate total. It is our belief that having access to more complete information allows our patients to make the best decision for them, but not all practices follow this approach. Every quote is unique, so we advise patients to ask what is included when comparing estimates from outside our office.
How do I choose the best plastic surgeon for a facelift?
Many patients feel overwhelmed by the selection of plastic surgeons from which they can choose and do not know where to begin. We recommend beginning with board certification. A physician who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, as ours are, has completed extensive training in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and typically has the skill, experience, and up-to-date knowledge of techniques to provide a good outcome. In addition to asking about a potential surgeon’s training and experience, we also suggest reviewing facelift before-and-after photos. This can be an excellent indication of the surgeon’s abilities. Finally, and just as important, the consultation process is an essential opportunity to determine if a doctor is right for you. He or she should listen attentively to your goals, evaluate your concerns and guide your decisions, and make every effort to answer your questions and address any issues. The ideal surgeon for you will make you feel at ease and more confident in your treatment.
How long will results last?
By using the most advanced techniques available, we can help provide long-lasting results with a facelift. Many patients enjoy the benefits for a decade or more, especially if non-surgical treatments are used in conjunction to minimize mild concerns like fine lines and volume loss as they develop. You can also contribute to a lasting outcome by taking good care of your skin and preserving your overall health. While everyone experiences the effects of aging differently, these habits can potentially extend the rejuvenating qualities by years.
